It
64/100
It (2017) is surprisingly well-balanced for what could’ve easily been a tonal mess. It juggles horror, humor, and nostalgia with a confidence that makes it feel more personal than your average studio horror film. The scares are stylish without going overboard, the comedic beats mostly land, and the summer-in-Derry setting has that perfect blend of wonder and dread.
What really holds the movie together is the friendship between the kids. The Losers’ Club feels lived-in, and there’s something genuinely moving about how they come together in the face of fear. That emotional core hits, at least in moments, but doesn’t quite carry all the way through. Some of the writing holds it back, and while the cast does a lot of the heavy lifting, the connection doesn’t always land as deeply as it could.
