Oldboy
Insane.
An absolute masterpiece in filmmaking here, everything from the outstanding and innovative camera work to the brilliant performance from Choi Min-Sik makes this easily one of the greatest films post 2000, truly sensational.
Oldboy is a masterfully crafted thriller that blends all these elements like trauma, isolation, revenge and psychological torment and turns it into a film that contains some of the most violent and vulgar moments I have ever seen in film, all even further enhanced by the outlandish and shocking twist.
Behind all the shocking imagery and thought provoking elements, this film is sick, it really is so fucking cool at times, the fight scene in the hall is expertly executed with the amazing choreography and the sort of 2D side scroller type camera work, it was fucking awesome. Couldn’t help but see this as this John Wick/Memento mash up, and I fucking loved it.
