Rocky
You’d think I would maybe get a little bored of this after watching it countless times, but no, of course I’m not bored of fucking Rocky.
Rocky is absolute epitome of ‘Average film night with dad’, a truly outstanding picture that I just can’t not enjoy with every rewatch since I first watched this about 10 years ago, it is absolutely blasting with this unmatched nostalgia for me personally, watching this with my Dad on the couch on a Friday night was truly an unmatched feeling. The film radiates this energy like no other with this inspiring and heartwarming story, the peak of the typical underdog story, which I adore.
There is about 10 scenes I can pinpoint from this that could potentially stand out to me like the ice rink, the improvised argument Rocky (sort of) has with Mickey, obviously the training sequence… but nothing compares to that final 15 minutes to me, I know it’s a tad generic saying it’s the best scene but my fucking word, every damn time it has me on the edge of my fucking seat, gives my skin more bumps than a Charlie XCX song.
Behind all the greatness of this film, it’s an honestly incredible achievement for Sly, making his own personal underdog story due to creating this Oscar winning masterpiece with such a slim budget and no belief behind him, remarkable.
Rest in Peace Carl Weathers.
