Sinners
BELIEVE THE HYPE!! Mind is still racing so I’ll just sum up some of my disparate thoughts briefly.
Finally free from the IP machine, Ryan Coogler comes out swinging with a dazzlingly original film that cements his place as one of the most exciting directors working today. Truly a generational talent.
Sinners has an incisive and layered story that blends so much of Coogler’s past work both in form and in function but with much more confidence and gravitas. The result is an elegant piece of work that is both gripping and touching.
The direction on display here is gorgeous. Coogler’s love for the craft oozes through every frame of this and it’s an absolute blast to watch. The man knows how to move a camera!
Phenomenal soundtrack from Ludwig Göransson (what else would you expect?!) that is rich, textured, and completely innovative. Elevates an already superb film into a bona fide modern classic.
The performances in this are extraordinary. Coogler pulls out some of Michael B Jordan’s most nuanced and compelling work in the dual roles of Smoke and Stack. The supporting cast are all superb, not a single weak spot amongst anyone. Brilliant stuff.
Good to see Ryan Coogler appreciates the finer things in life. That man is a MUNCH!!
10/10, no notes, go watch this film in IMAX before it’s too late!!
