Poor Things
Poor Things can be about grooming and aging and becoming your own imperfect self.
It's about grooming and abuse, having in mind that abuse has multiple forms, it can be complex, people can have sweet memories with their abusers in the middle of the chaos and violence.
It is also a fable, I do believe we are supposed to interpret Portugal-Boat-Egypt as her adolescent years, Max does say her hair grows x inches per day and learns x new words per day, the timeline is not the normal one... probably because it would be absurdly boring to watch her mature at normal rate, maybe for the brain is trying to keep up with the rest of the cells age, or simply just because. I mean, there are a lot weirder things going on.
She was wronged, and she did wrong things, she is an experiment and then becomes the scientist.
I did not like the ending that much, but I am glad she did not use the General's body to put her God's brain. She did not make him suffer, but she also did not save him.
It makes sense, even though I would rather she had set fire on everything, got all the money and ran away with her French socialist lover, it's an amoral film in the end.
Overall, fun to watch, shows in a new way toxic masculinity, sexual awakening and breaking free from abuse in an immodest, chaotic and unapologetic way.
