Waves
Sobbed, Then saw the weeki wachee mermaids (that’s my childhood), sobbed again, then saw the skyway and was taken out of the movie bc they are in Miami and I know my skyway bridge ANYWHERE, sobbed again, THEN my favorite Radiohead song came on (true love waits) and then I sobbed like I hadn’t before.
But seriously this movie was an amazing story of forgiveness. Forgiving those who have hurt you and forgiving yourself for the hurt you’ve done. The dad quotes proverbs 10:12, “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses” and I think we often think that and use it but don’t actually understand the totality of it. Love covers ALL offenses, even the most evil. Evil, abuse, and indifference are hiloghted in this movie. Dark things that should never happen, but they do. It’s our choice what we do with that.
My dad once told me in a time in my life when I needed to hear it, that sometimes hating someone for what they did to you hurts you more in the long run. Forgiveness isn’t easy and it’s not clear cut, it’s different for everyone. Most of the time it doesn’t make sense and the path we take for it is incredibly painful but it’s necessary. Here is an article that truly changed my life and perspective on forgiveness and this movie made me think of it again and read it again. Years after reading it the first time, I realize yet again how true it is. I am grateful for all of those that have forgiven me and I am grateful for God and the people in my life who have helped me have the heart to forgive.
