Papillon
I sincerely don't know how to feel about this movie. On one hand it feels beautiful, like it could represent all of the emotions of both poles of the human experience, such as suffering, despair, relief, etc. The section of the movie where the protagonist was in solitaire displayed such a strong spirit dying, really have to give it to McQueen for that.
But, as it was mentioned already, I didn't know how to feel. There were alot of possibilities for the cinematography and the direction to shine but it didn't, it turned away at every exit it was given. The finale and and the scenes at solitaire when it was shown the effect that time had on the protagonist shined in that aspect, but it could've been way more consistent. And what was more disappointing was the lack of the rage against the machine that was the prisional system, rage that was read on every chapter of the original book.
All in all, good movie and perhaps after it marinates sometime in my mind I can re-watch and see other highlights, but right now it just feels like a pretty decent movie.
