Manhattan
Strong performances and dazzling black and white scenery and camera work are overshadowed by Allen’s irritable and whiny lead character, who offers a glimpse of the perverse and sickening man that Woody would become as time went on. Good film technically with serious red flags that can’t be overlooked or understated. Replace the writer and the lead actor with someone that isn’t remotely as gross and frustrating as Allen and this could be a seriously great movie.
About halfway through I realized that Kyle’s cousin Kyle on South Park was most definitely based off of Woody Allen, and for the rest of the film I couldn’t help but picture Kyle complaining about his allergies and the polyps on the backs of his hands whenever Woody went on one of his frequent whiny tirades.
