Dune: Part Two
Power over spice is power over all
Pros:
• Atmospheric colors
• Sandworms
• Everyone who’s a harkonnen being bald (I personally think it’s because they are disposable/replaceable so they just look like “clones”)
• The chanting gave me goosebumps
• The reconnection between Paul and Gurney made me smile
• So many symbolism
• Soundtrack was good
• Acting was great
• The 10 sec screen time for Anya Taylor Joy was amazing (she’s my goat)
Cons:
• The reverend mother was spamming her voice ngl
• I’m conflicted on who’s in the right (maybe part 3 will clear that up)
• Cliff hanger r u serious <-jokes
Thoughts:
That movie was actually really good, like I was on the edge of my seat for a good chunk of the movie. Particularly in the middle where the bald skinny dude goes crazy is the colosseum. Then he basically replaced MY DRAX which made me dislike him more. What I really liked about this scene however is the color shift from a colorful desert to a black and white to symbolize the seriousness and bleak nature of the harkonnen. They don’t feel emotions, they’re detached from reality, which is captured in the color shift. Around the same time Paul reunites with Gurney after spending some time now with the freman. I really thought that he would bring Paul back to reality but instead he started straying more into Usul (his fremen self). Now fast forward to the end where Usul and Feyd-Rautha face off, the symbolism of the dagger Usul uses proves he’s too far gone, he’s not the same. I think this was the same dagger he used in Dune part 1 which was gifted by Chani however this time the dagger was bent. Maybe this means their relationship is starting to break but not completely broken. This is also supported by the fact that she decided to go her separate way at the end. I have a feeling (I’m hoping) that in part 3 the dagger will be repaired and their relationship heals. I’m honestly on Chani’s side just cause Paul is taking radical approaches to solving the problem in arrakis (or I guess dune). Maybe Paul will come to his senses in part 3. There’s so many “maybes” or “I hope” and I think that’s what makes this movie really special yet frustrating. I need part 3 to come out already…
