Ratatouille
What a great depiction of pursuing what you really want to do while others tell you it’s not possible. As long as you really give it your all it will eventually go your way. 🐀💭
Pros:
• Remy’s determination
• Linguini character development
• Ego’s open mindedness
• Colette’s trust
• Remy’s brother Emile and the family (supportive in their own ways.)
• The risks made in the movie
• Soundtracks
• Scenery
• Visuals
• French accents 🇫🇷 🏳️ 🥖
• Pacing
Cons…. (kinda?):
• They didn’t address what happened to the other chefs after they supposedly quit.
• Lawyer who did a lab report on the hair felt useless.
• Skinner (the lead chef) was obnoxious and desperate to milk the original owner of the restaurant’s legacy. Even if it meant destroying the legacy.
Overall:
This movie covered themes not many films are able to express without being forced into your face. What I liked about it is that they used a rat, Remy, to exaggerate the point that anyone can do anything. It doesn’t necessarily have to be about becoming a chef. It brings to light the hardships that one must overcome along the road to reach the dream you’re after. They also made it clear you don’t have to choose between two things you care about but instead try to incorporate them both in a way that doesn’t burn bridges. In this movie they chose family or chef. Since Remy is passionate about both he figured out a way to both work at a restaurant as a chef while being able to serve the people he loves, his family. I think ratatouille nailed it with this, especially due to the fact that they are rats which is absurd. As for the other characters, Linguini started as this guy with no experience in the cooking scene due to the fact that he was trying to survive. Later he finds out he’s the son of the renowned chef everyone looks up to. This fills his head with false confidence and is forced into becoming the owner of the restaurant. He goes so far as to make it seem like he is the one preparing the dishes when in fact it is the passionate rat Remy. Eventually he confesses to the harsh food critic that it was in fact Remy making the food which ultimately humbles linguini to follow his own dreams and not Remy’s. He becomes the waiter which turns out he is pretty good at. Overall ratatouille embodies the ideas that you should follow your dreams no matter how others view it since they don’t have the same passions as you, and not everything has to be done alone because there will be someone who will see your determination and decide to help you along the way.
