Overall:
Mind blowing movie to say the least. It’s crazy how a generic revenge story could pack so much depth into the film without feeling forced. I for one wasn’t expecting such a plot twist and not only that the emotional scenes plus the symbolism makes this a beautiful film for sure.
Anyways the boy Amleth is destined to become the king as he was the prince of a small kingdom. Unfortunately his uncle had other plans, that being stealing the throne by murdering the king, as well as Amleth who inevitably escaped fueled with rage and vengeance after the death of his father and witnessing his mother beg for mercy.
**
SPOILER ->* There was also some foreshadowing during this when the brother was welcomed by the king and queen, the queen offered her her cup and the jester jests that the queen is giving herself to not just the king but her brother. This comes full circle at the end when you realize that the queen was the one who asked the brother to murder the king and to take the throne. This makes me wonder if there were other scenes like this one which to me makes the film even greater.<- *END SPOILER.
Symbolism was seen throughout the movie also whether it was the black crows (odin), horse riding (Valkyrie taking him to Valhalla.), or even the corpse resembling a horse (could be mockery or something I’m not sure). Such symbolism gives depth to the film that would otherwise make it bland without it.
I did overall enjoy the route the film director took in not making another generic revenge story but instead putting his own twist into the story while of course not neglecting clean choreography, cinematography, and the ambience. Also, Vikings are cool.🪓
crazy take/dumb take/spoilers ahead
Maybe the queen wasn’t evil and knew the king would die of old age and not in battle so she sent her brother to fight him in battle so he would die and be sent to Valhalla. She then rage baits the son Amleth into fighting her so she would die in battle and be in Valhalla with him. Now they are all in Valhalla leaving my goat Olga alone with the twins 😡😡😡. This is a joke… unless??
