Before Sunrise
i know a lot of people praise this movie for its realistic nature of just two people talking but idk this movie seems so unreal. even if i feel as though i’m intruding on a moment between two people and that i shouldn’t be watching, i just couldn’t help but feel that stuff like this is just so unrealistic. maybe it’s because i’m so turned off by the inauthenticity of relationships and romance on social media but to convince a stranger to get off the train with you, to be charming enough to do so, and for them to just follow you just feels so fairy tale to me. i guess it’s cause i have no game but oh well. if it were me, i wouldn’t have even said anything if i saw someone as beautiful as julie delpy sitting next to me on the train, let alone convince her to get off the train with me, but even if i did, it would have stopped when i reached my stop, and i would have said “it was nice talking to you, have a nice life” and got off. it just seems like moments like these just need everything to go perfectly, a series of random combinations that have to occur for something like this to even happen. what if celine had gone on the train right after the one jesse was on, what if the german couple was never there or they had never had argued, causing celine to move to the seat right next to jesse’s, what if he hadn’t said anything, what if they stopped talking after commenting about the arguing couple? i mean i suppose that’s the beauty of it, that life allows for such occurrences to happen, even as fantastical as they may seem, i mean how fantastical is it really when the director himself lived through this experience. i think it’s just so far fetched to me because this is a glimpse that is unique to these people, even if they are actors, their individualistic conversations just feel so perfect for their characters. i’m sure there are millions all around the world going through their own versions of this movie, different in every way that the movie depicts but still having that same sense of connection. it may seem awkward or ridiculous to others, but the feeling is always the same. everyone seems to be searching for something, myself included, and it might, most probably, take a long while for me to find what i’m looking for, buried beneath that special bond but i believe it will come, and on my journey, i’ll hopefully find the answer that celine talks about in the little space in between, the attempt.
