Drive
As a diehard Baby Driver fan, I went into this with very high expectations for a similar experience. While Drive was by no means bad, it just didn’t have the same effect on me as other movies from similar genres.
I was a big fan of the lighting, especially in the nighttime driving scenes through LA. The soundtrack did a great job of capturing the feel of the city. Some of the needle drops were amazing and felt like a dream, but others just felt forced and out of place.
It was interesting to see Ryan Gosling in a more serious role when many of his movies that I’ve seen have been comedies. I understand that his character was meant to be quiet and mysterious, but that’s just very difficult to actually act out without it feeling stale and even boring at times. I would have loved to see more from Oscar Isaac’s character, but he just ended up feeling like wasted potential.
This movie did a lot of things very well but I just felt that it was lacking in multiple departments overall. Many of the characters seemed shallow and I just felt like they could have done so many more little things. The most I got out of this was concern about how many buildings I recognized from Los Santos.
