Hamnet
** “Tell me a story.”
“What story would you like?”
“Something that moves you.”**
I swear if I hear that quill scratching against the paper again my ears will start bleeding.
Holy cow. This film was exactly what I was expecting. It lived perfectly to my expectations that were already crazy high. If there was one word to describe this film it would be beautiful. The scenery, shots, dialogue, acting, story, it’s all so beautiful.
The acting especially had my mind blown. Get the kid actor for Hamnet a freaking Oscar alongside Jessie Buckley my goodness. Jessie’s performance is worthy of 10 oscars. She carries so much emotion and weight throughout the film. She falls into the role of Agnes.
Paul Mescal is also as always, spectacular. After watching Normal People over the summer he is the best actor for romance dramas. He has so much emotion for every role he’s in and he has so much chemistry with all his cast mates.
The ending to tie it all off, wow. The fact they used The Nature of Daylight was really the final punch for me. I quite literally just sat starting at the screen one the film ended. The final scene is such a raw and impactful view of grief and how people come together in rough times. Even through art. I would not change a single thing about this film. It is done perfectly. By far the best film of the year.
