Collateral
Two men who have, each in their own way, given up on life (whether that be the pursuit or sanctity of it), find themselves violently and philosophically at odds, yet unwittingly grant each other exactly what they need/deserve through gritty action sequences and biting dialogue.
Cruise’s typical gusto far and away provides the most entertainment for this film (though Foxx certainly carries his share of acting weight). His character’s silver tongue (and hair) make him a perfectly charismatic sociopath, which he’s been apparently method acting as his whole life. Also, the novelty of Tom’s self performed stunts is always fun to watch
Mann seems to be great at adeptly matching visual aesthetics to his narratives, I’ll have to check more of his work out.
