Her
Sometimes I think I have felt everything I'm ever gonna feel. And from here on out, I'm not gonna feel anything new. Just lesser versions of what I've already felt.
Phew. I am a bit out of words to be honest. This was extravagant. Very unique. It amuses me so much, the irony of this film, that it is so real for a sci-fi film. Nothing in this movie feels like actors pretending to be someone on a stage or set. I wasn't watching Joaquin Phoenix portraying someone, I was watching the events in the life of Theodore Twombly, who just happens to look like Joaquin. I wasn't watching Scarlett Johansson voice-act for an AI, I was watching and listening to Samantha, who happened to sound exactly the same as Scarlett. I think this film is as beautiful as it looks, and somehow, hilarious too. But that's what makes it real too. Even an utterly depressed person comes across something amusing once in a while, it may not content him but it may help him smile.
I think this films asks us a question of the need for connections, and portrays that even though something isn't human, doesn't mean we can't fall in love with it. Samantha was an OS, but almost everyone accepted Theodore and her dating almost immediately. She wasn't human, as she herself knew and contrary to what she wanted to believe, she indeed was just sophisticated programming, mirroring human emotions according to the situations. May be ascended in the end or IDK. However, Theodore felt that connection with her. And again I find this so ironic that his experiences with an AI helped him tackle real human emotions, thus that final letter to his ex-wife. I loved this film with all my heart. Such beautiful cinematography, brilliant performances of literally everyone, soothing soundtrack, pacing runtime and such natural dialog and a great plot with character development as its focus because obviously.
There's nothing wrong with the film. One of those few perfect, flawless movies. A masterpiece.
Watch it. You may cry (I didn't) but you'll definitely be better after this movie. So, yeah watch it.
