Obsession
Literally every positive thing I heard about this film lived upto its expectation. Be it the plot, the themes, Inde's performance and the third act (which is where most horror films fuck up), but this manages to incorporate it so perfectly. It creeps you out to your wits, not because of the supernaturalness of it, in fact due to the realness of their relationship dynamic. Nikki's terrifying recital of the twisted, incestuous version of Hansel and Gretel perfectly incorporates their relationship - a "brother" seemingly forcing his "sister" to develop fervent feelings for him by using a magical branch.
The film's symbolism works perfectly. From the title, to the plot, to the dialog, to every minute detail - it never forgets it core. No dialogue is exhausted, no scene is wasted, no shot is mundane, everything is so precise, it is just amazing. All the performances are amazing but Inde nails it to perfection - its like the role was made for her.
And anyone who defends Bear is on my bitter side automatically. Come at me if you will.
