Unforgiven
Yesterday I started watching this on my laptop while on the flight back to Utah from MD. Towards the end of this film, there's a moment where a character comes to grapple with the realities of murder and death. In that moment, the man walking down the aisle grabbed my arm. I looked up at him. His eyes widened, staring directly at me, and he fell right in front of the bathrooms.
In an instant the entire plane erupted into chaos as the flight attendants rushed to help him out. The man started throwing up all over the floor. They called for a medical professional. A man came and started to help.
I thiught for sure the man was dead. It seemed the only logical outcome. Only moments before I watched a brutal death on screen.
A flight attendant started yelling at a woman to return to her seat. The woman said her seat was on the other side of the unconscious man. The flight attendant, incredibly manic and of a Karen demeanor, yelled (and I kid you not here), "Jump over him!" To which the lady said, "No."
The flight attendant started screaming, and again - I am directly quoting her here, "Its not that fucking hard! Jump over him!" So the woman jumped over the unconscious body.
The doctor rushed to the man laying on the floor and right as he did,
Thump
The bathroom door opened and hit the unconscious man. The person inside was trying to leave and didnt realize what was going on. The manic flight attendant told them to stay in the bathroom but I guess they didnt hear because I kid you not, the person opened the door and hit the unconscious man again.
The flight attendant started shrieking at the person in the bathroom only for them to OPEN THE DOOR AGAIN. And they finally saw the unconscious man and copious amounts of vomit on the floor and promptly closed the door until further instruction.
Luckily the man woke up and they said it was probably a stroke. They gave him aspirin and he was the first to leave the plane with paramedics.
Through this entire experience, I was in a daze. Grappling with the fragility of human existence and our impermanence. My entire perspective on life shifted. And the only reason that happened WAS BECAUSE OF THIS MOVIE AND HOW EFFECTICE IT WAS AT MAKING YOU FEEL THE PAIN AND REALITY OF DEATH.
If this story isnt proof that my life is a sitcom and you are all just characters in it, I don't know what else could convince you.
This is genuinely a spectacular film and on the higher end of my 5 star movies. It is absolutely incredible. Luckily I finished watching it today. I would highly recommend it.
It looks absolutely gorgeous, the acting and directing are incredible too. I genuinely think Clint Eastwood may be the person in Hollywood with the most sauce. Being insanely talented at one skill is hard enough, but to be that good at acting and win an Oscar for best director and STILL BE MAKING MOVIES OVER THE AGE OF 90 is proof that he does it for the love of the game.
Now I'm gonna finish with my favorite quote from the movie:
"You aint ugly like me. It's just that we both have scars."
