Anora
Reminds me a lot of uncut gems, except you get a few breaks and a few laughs along with cinematography that just pierces the soul, and a story that cuts deep.
This movie wasted no time throwing you right into the swing of things… wildly euphoric, indulgent, carefree, and void of reality.
Then, all of a sudden, it comes crashing down, and calamity and reality slowly reveal themselves as the main character, despite Ani trying to hang on
While I don’t know much about all the “right” terms, the camera work that showcases Ani’s emotions was superb, and just something about her and the crew walking by Coney Island just did something for me, idk.
The ending is wildly powerful and the silence… it’s deafening. This film shows that nobody is immune to escapism, regardless of where you come from, as it’s in one way or another part of the human experience.
What a deeply moving story fit for 2024
