Hokum
I normally don’t like traditional scary movies, mostly because they’re just flat corny with no depth and Hokum is anything but that.
A character who’s introduced to us as a stuck up author travels to a hotel in Ireland where his parents honeymooned long ago
He continues to notice things that get slowly more unnerving as time goes on, and through some well written scenes, we get to see why he is the way he is, and then… it happens.
The whole film takes a new shape and we’re thrusted into a psychedelic nightmare with perfectly timed jump scares that you absolutely feel coming but somehow surprise you, and a score that keeps you just on the edge
The ending is both wholesome yet leaves one questioning what they thought they saw, and an excellent study on the effects of childhood trauma
