Sentimental Value
There are films you pay attention too, and films that simply carry you, and this was one of them
The opening narration sucked me right in and laid the groundwork for a tale witnessing loss, grief, high expectations and imperfections
The way it weaved between fluidity and friction was impressive, as well as the rough transitions between scenes. This bugged me at first, but then realized it’s a feature and not a bug.
What stuck out to me most was the creative use of space and pause in these dialogues, it added so much emotional depth from each character. In a world where we’re constantly trying to fill the space with something, it’s a great reminder that it’s not a requirement.
It doesn’t matter how great a person is to their colleagues and peers, without family, we’re really hollow beings hobbling through the world on one foot.
There is no shortcutting the human experience through our work, and time is both the one thing we can’t escape and the healer of many harms
What an absolute gut punch of a film
