First Blood
*- Are you telling me that 200 of our men against your boy is a no-win situation for us?*
*- You send that many, don't forget one thing…*
A good supply of body bags.I was mainly expecting this to be a typical Vietnam War movie where buff Sylvester Stallone runs around the jungle blasting his machine gun left and right.
So the most surprising thing about this, to me, was the location actually being entirely in the U.S.
It's like they took the war in Vietnam and just moved it to the country that started it.
While at that, the region of America used for the movie is stunning and out of this world.
The Pacific Northwest is a place I've been fascinated by for a long while now. And for this, the film only gets more points in my book.
I don't know if maybe the source I watched this from influenced this, but the overall quality and tone of colors was very pleasant to the eye.
I recently noticed a style of movies I seem to be loving. It's when the situation we're watching is gradually escalating to constantly new levels of complexity, ridiculousness, or comedy.
Stuff like After Hours, Fargo, Groundhog Day, Dog Day Afternoon, Alien, Jaws…
In here, an odd and disrespectful attitude of some cop turned into a mini-scale war.
So yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of this concept.
The action, oh man, the action.
It's actually kinda simple, but done in such a smooth and neat way that's special, idk.
Explosions, shootouts, chases, and resourceful, sneaky plans. All here.
But what I really didn't anticipate was the finale. If somebody were to say to me, yesterday, that I would shed tears during Rambo, I'd be shocked.
An already perfect action movie also turned into a great commentary on war trauma.> *He keeps calling my name: "I wanna go home, Johnny! I wanna drive my Chevy!"*
*I said "With what? I can't find your fuckin' legs! I can't find your legs!"*
