The Substance
The picture of Dorian Gray be like except instead of hedonism it's relentless suffering
clearly they were going for disgust w this, but half the scenes were so off-putting it makes one feel unwell and to me at least they served no purpose. Though I admit that the rawness does make for a disturbing vibe that otherwise could not be achieved. I think the end wouldn't hit the same if the monster weren't so genuinely repulsive. Everything else about this movie was portrayed so well and I think they should've leaned into the not so visceral scenes a lot more. The dystopian capitalistic vibe for example came across as incredibly disturbing without the need for graphic scenery.
Hated the needles and the rotting though, I wish instead the punishment would've been like one wrinkle and one gray hair strand at a time😭
