Alien: Romulus
Very scary 😦 (8/10 or 4/5)
I’m not a big fan of horror and when I do watch horror it is kind of a mashup like physiological horror or thriller horror. This is a really great straight horror movie. And I do plan on watching this again especially late at night cause I watched this during noon so I didn’t really get the correct ambiance.
My favorite character has to be David Jonsson as Andy. He played the eerie robot that only cares for his task really really good. His character was so good that I loved and hated him depending on his “coding”. Andy was so cool and I think the most like able character.
The sound design for sure gets the gold medal for me as I was creeped out even at moments when it was just exposition or establishing shots. The first 5 minutes were amazing with the eerie chorus sounding like a church choir. I also liked the practical effects as cgi can be very risky.
I don’t really have a lot of cons besides some character choices and critical thinking. If I would have to pick something it would have to be the scariness of the xenomorphs. They were not that scary even though they were suppose to be the advanced face huggers, which I thought were scarier. All they did was stalk their prey and click their mouths which I didn’t feel were that scary.
Some quick pros for me are Archie Renaux as Tyler. I could really see him as joining something like the dcu or mcu as a hero. I also loved the crazy plot twist at the end with the film introducing a whole new plot and monster in the last 15 minutes. That was really exciting as the ending wasn’t very interesting before the plot twist.
Overall this is a great film and I plan on rewatching it as I love the atmosphere. I do recommend this! :)
