Gladiator
"Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?"
It is a hundred percent why I'm here and I am entertained, hell now I'm entertained just by thinking about it. After seeing this Gladiator 2 gas become one of my most anticipated movies of the year, c'mon packed cast, Ridley's coming back and surprisingly large budget!!
Oh man, this could've been 3 hours longer and I would've eaten it all up. It's not the big action explosions like Lord of the rings but it's more personal, the battles are sooo good, more on that later. You know it was a missed opportunity not to make a prequel ok this a lot of years ago when Russel and Ridley were younger, that would be soooo fvking epic. This movie deserved best picture sooo much, the amount of talent in this movie and the scale and all the practical effects could never be recreated these days with a flood of CGI. I just hope Ridley still uses a lot of practical effects in Gladiator 2.
Russell Crowe is fuvking incredible as Maximus Decimus Meridius (yea, I'm fuvking addicted to saying his name). He completely transforms into the character and the pain that he feels, you feel but especially at the end, imagine the jaw drop on my mouth when he entered the door. He absolutely deserved best actor. Another big performance is from Joaquin Phoenix as the Emperor Commodus and in a lot of ways he elevates the movie with his fuvking annoying character that it's so satisfying during his death. By the way that suit he wore during the final fight was really cool though. Connie Nielsen was also very very good as Lucilla and I'm glad she's coming back in Gladiator 2. I really salute the person in charge of casting for the sequel because they picked Paul Mescal as older Lucius and he looks, he really looks like young Lucius. I hope Djimon Hounsou returns in the sequel because he was amazing here, I'm gonna go pray.
"The general who became a slave. The slave who became a gladiator. The gladiator who defied an emperor. Striking story!"
That story goes down as one of the greatest, because it doesn't rely on big action sequences and explosions to tell the story unlike other ancient Greece movies yet Ridley Scott always keeps the movie interesting wether it's with interesting dialogue, new characters or even just Russel Crowe shouting you never get bored. Maybe I should go see the extended edition now because I'm really interested in how it's gonna how down. Overall, if I was Maximus I would beat the shit out of Commodus from the beginning.
