*Even you can create an atom bomb!* After after his class is taken hostage crazed man, Makoto either being inspired by the man’s actions or just the thrill of the event, robs a nuclear plant of its plutonium. Our protagonist then seeks to build an atomic bomb to hold Tokyo hostage however once he achieves this he realizes he never thought of what he would actually want. This film explores fears of the atom bomb in post war japan, as well as feelings of alienation, thoughts of suicide, the thrill of death, and a lack purpose all through our main character. While almost absurd at times this film perfectly handles it heavy subject matter.

My first Brian De Palma film since Scarface and damn does it deliver. The visuals, the camera work, and sound design were insanely impressive. John Trevolta and Nancy Allen both delivered stellar performances but Jack holding Sally’s body and his reaction at the end had the best acting in the film.

amazing set design especially the scenes on infant island. the shobijin fairies were so cute and so is mothra.

Know that death is coming, limiting the time you have to fulfill your desire to make art that is true to yourself, to spend time with family and loved ones, to ruminate over love lost, to dream and overthink, to understand others even strangers, and in turn to hope to be understood through either love or your art.
