Kind of love that this huge Disney-owned movie based on a very old IP is so anti lifelessness. It kind of is what it it says it’s against. I for one miss “the good ole days” of art, glamour, the creation of something for the sheer sake of creating it. It breaks my heart that everything is so “what do the shareholders think.” The world we live in is falling apart and art can bring us together. Too bad nobody actually gives a fuck. They just want the fucking popcorn bucket to say they have the popcorn bucket. This is all in the movie imo, but it’s also like “omg Meryl do the thing!” or “omg Anne wear the sweater!” Which, yes, I want that too, but in doing so the movie becomes the very thing it critiques, and does so with tentative lack of conviction. Meryl is soft and cloying, so as not to offend, Anne is not the independent “idgaf” journalist she wants to be, and seeks the attention of everyone in the room because if she’s not, there’s no plot. Idk. In its critique of sad regurgitation there’s a lot of sad regurgitation going on. And I actually like this movie!

This perfect movie… now that I have moved to nyc to increase my professional cache this movie is strangely personally relevant. Still the movie where Meryl transcends herself. She is witty, biting, and sympathetic. Im struck again by Emily blunt’s performance, and Stanley Tucci too. That script. That editing! Andy’s boyfriend still such an ass. And you’d think her friends walked in on her having sex w that blondie after their reaction. “This isn’t the Andy I’ve known for sixteen years… who are you??” Homeboy kissed her on the cheek oml.

A beautiful hollow mess. What was the point? “She sings the song. YOUR song.” I roll my eyes. But the journey was so mesmerizing! Who are these people? Why are we entertaining reconciliation if the fallout was so bad? Is it really fixed just like that, bc you made a dress she never wore, and she sang a song you never heard? This thing is a beautiful package with frankly, nothing inside!

When the edit is this good who gaf not me!! Put christina ricci back in movies challenge
