Amélie
I decided to watch a romance movie today because its Valentine’s Day and it just makes sense, and this movie was such a good pick. Firstly, I want to talk about the scenery and beauty of this film. The color grading was amazing, the vibrancy of every scene really made this movie stand out. And there’s a detail, a detail that’s not really talked about when discussing the brilliance of movies, that was done so well in this film: the music. Music, even just some background noise, can really drive the mood and atmosphere of a film, and this movie is a really good example. It’s a subtle detail, but if you really pay attention when watching this you’ll know why I’m talking about it right now, the music just adds this kind of vibe that the movie deserves. Amélie is such a good character, her personality and character is so consistent throughout the movie, and it makes this movie so special. Her quirks really add to her, and her struggles are so real. Speaking more on the characters of this film, the other characters each having their own little story and conflicts that aren’t just briefly mentioned and then skipped over was perfect. Amélie’s father, Raymond, Hipolito, Lucien, Dominique, Nino, all of them have their own personality and aren’t just side characters to Amélie’s plot. The story itself is also wonderful, probably one of the best storylines in a romance film I’ve ever seen, so far at least. This movie is amazing, and, as I usually say at the end of reviews, I highly recommend it, especially if you’re looking for a lighthearted romance film to watch.
