American Psycho
This movie definitely deserves the hype it gets. First of all, the cinematography is very well done, the way the movie goes from a gruesome murder scene to a calm dinner at a fancy restaurant really exemplifies the mind of a psychopath and how scattered and sudden it is. Patrick Bateman is a very good example of a psychotic character done right, and that’s because the movie never tries to make him a comfortable or lighthearted character, he’s insane and there’s no denying it. The way he switches from an insane killer to a formal and collected businessman is done so perfectly, it just completes the movie. And the best thing of all of this is how realistically insane he is. He’s not a raging lunatic towards everyone he meets, he knows how to make small talk, how to act casually, how to act classy, and how to hide the true part of him until it’s safe to show. The story was great too, the psychological breakdown of a narcissistic serial killer, his own sanity dwindling even further down due to his greed and lust, seen through the his own lens, its wonderfully done. I don’t have much else to say, it’s a great watch but not entirely for everyone, still recommend it though.
