Tenet
Not an armchair diagnosis of Nolan himself, but the structure of Tenet has big neurodivergent/AuDHD energy to me:
Info dumping about special interests
Nonlinear thoughts that bounce around
Obsessive craftsmanship
Low affect emotional performances
Watching it gave me the same feeling I had in college, being at a party and in the midst of the chaos, finding myself in conversation with a a drunk dude who is just SO excited to tell you about theoretical physics. It’s not the time or the place and it’s loud, too loud to hold a real conversation, and he doesn’t seem to care or notice that what he’s saying isn’t super comprehensible or relatable; talking at you, more than to you. He’s confident that he’s smarter than everyone here playing beer bong and by the end of the conversation, you’re inclined to agree. Maybe that’s not everyone’s idea of a good time but I’ve definitely gone home with That Guy and only vaguely regretted that’s how I chose to spend my time.
That’s exactly how I felt at the end of this film.
