Poor Things
*that is not my doing, and I read your cards and letters home and watched you fearlessly create Bella Baxter with wonder.

This movie is beautiful to watch, the design is to die for, the costumes, bella’s wild ever growing hair, the characterisation in even just the way she walks brilliantly threading together an entire journey of growth and ageing within 2 hours.
many will argue this movie is wrong, i argue that art should be uncomfortable and make you think. drawing attention to the infantilisation of women, the desire for oblivious girls and how men turn to hatred and rage when a woman gains her own agency. that conversation is inherently feminist. discovering yourself through sexual exploration is inherently feminist. and discovering you have been taken advantage of as you grow older and wiser, and using that knowledge to better shape your decisions and understanding of consent is inherently feminist. this movies never states that these things are okay, or should be happening, it simply uses this story as a metaphor to spark much deeper conversation. i loved it.
rip bella baxter - you would’ve loved a vibrator.
