Before Sunset
wow i really relate to the both of the characters here, especially in celine. it's like a narrative written out of my mind and soul. the movie even the prequel, is just too good of a screenplay. the plot is minimal, but it's dialogue heavy. and every line will reallt left an impression to you.
i liked how this film explores themes like regret, reconciliation, memories, and the fleeting moments of happiness and romance. it showed how life and time can be the villain of our selves. i liked how it emphasizes that love is not something we truly need, but something that we can want and seek. not everything in life is about love and romance and sex, it can also be about our dreams, passion, and just the existence of hoping.
another important theme discussed here is the concept of the life we could have lived. the movie felt so sad and heartbreaking because of this. it's the tragedy of things that never happened, and not of the things that happened. and that is haunting.
and i see my self in celine, that reality is sometimes too much for us that we tend to forget the idealism we seek for. you can see in the dialogues how they matured and the experiences that shaped them after that night. i also see my self in jesse, and that fear of settling, and just sticking to it for the sake of the fruit of the love you once had but has fleeted away as time went by. and it's scary because they showed how the reality of jesse's life is being haunted by the fantasy of being with the person he really like.
the scene i liked here the most is of course the guitar scene, it's so powerful and brought tears to my eyes.
