Stalker
I was going to wait to review this but I don't think giving it more time would help me grasp what little I might understand. The main thing I can really pull from this movie with one viewing is that it's genuinely a methodical masterpiece.
Full of deep poetic analysis and thoughts about... I don't even know, the meaning of life, desires, morality, and faith. From conflicting perspectives like the rational scientist and the artistic mind of the writer. While going through this perilous and mysterious journey come to find themselves agreeing on what will become of them if they see this through, even with their differences. The Stalker is an interesting character that with one viewing I don't have a good understanding of. But it is obvious to me that belief and faith play a big role mainly in his character and also throughout the rest of the film. The snobby writer and scientist that believe themselves better off without faith in what they do and man, makes for some great scenes that really push the stalkers character.
The use of color, lack of music, and long scenes made me feel so deeply invested that it felt like I was on this journey too. Strung along by the zone's mystery and promises of the supernatural. All of this building to the ending that after you thought you had it figured out, you were made the fool. Which in turn makes what the writer said all the more conflicting.
One thing I have to say is this film does seem to linger too long at points for me, but that is probably my fault for expecting more closure from this than it can give without ruining what makes it so great. At any rate, this film was a masterpiece and I hope I can fully appreciate and understand it someday.
