Poor Things
First of all, the movie critics already says it all. One golden lion, two golden globes, TEN oscar nominations. That's outstanding.
The movie director's fame is unlimited. You already saw some movies by Lanthimos and you know how much talented he is with his experiments. He mastered the ability to create disturbing movies, that keeps you stuck on the screen, with their fucked up, stressing and traumatic scenes. This movie shows the Lanthimos' grow up during this years as a movie director in all of the aspects that this job concerns: scenography, filmography, music, script, etc.
The plot is interesting by itself: a scientist finds a dead body and brings it back to life, but this person has to re-integrate with society and discover the world, so the main point is the evolution of Bella, which is interpreted by Emma Stone, in one of the BEST performances of the 21st century.
She had to act in many disturbing scenes, though she managed to show so many emotions, and they fit so perfectly. I've never seen something this real.
The scenography, filmography and the costumes evolves together with the protagonist, such as the movie going from black and white to really bright colors, places going from the 19th century London to a more futuristic Lisbon, with a majestic use of the CGI and camera angles, that made it spectacular, maybe one of the best worldbuilding i've ever seen, and the costumes becomes way more bizarre and complicated as she grows up.
Bella eventually gets in touch with society, but she has to learn about it for the first time, and apparently, we have to do the same, because the movie makes us question our behavior, and norms, and social rules, and how many of them doesn't make any sense. This creates a lot of thinking opportunities, in fact i'm considering to watch it a second time, so i can note everything and develop my reasonings.
The OSTs are perfect, they fit so well, since literally every single song is really disturbing. All of them made me anxious, and this is so fascinating, so I enjoyed them a lot.
