Similar to portrait of a lady on fire except crazy AF. Very violent at times, very sexual, very intense, but very enjoyable. There's a directors cut that's quite long, it's the only one I've watched but I'd say it's worth the length.
The other Sciamma movie I was talking about, short and very sweet, even if it deals with deep themes.
This is the movie about bad dating with creepy guys, interested to get your perspective on it.
A rather psychedelic, nightmarish retelling of Alice in wonderland from one of my favourite directors, lots of wild Czech stop motion.
Classic dark comedy around the heavy theme of a group of wannabe-jihadists. Very funny yet sensible, the director did their research.
Brilliant dystopian movie about escaping a nonsensical system, and striving for love and freedom.
Strange, non-linear story of a queer worker at a drag queen bar. Some violent imagery.
Artsy movie about two sisters, one good, one evil/jealous, with a Macbeth theme.
Very dark comedy/drama on the revenge of a grieving mother.
Beautiful documentary on a married couple who die doing what they love - educating the world on volcanos. This is free on BBC iPlayer and it's a really magical time, opera music over beautiful volcano footage.
Imgmar Bergman deals in some pretty intense and intimate subject matters. Story is of two sisters dealing with the declining health of a third sister.
*Strong themes/imagery of sexual violence*. Despite the horrific nature of the story, this is such an intense and interesting film IMO.
A very, very slow representation of late-communist Hungary in the form of a young man witnessing a strange circus coming into his town. It's not for everyone but it is really beautiful and amazingly shot, if you're up for something deeper and challenging then this is a good choice.
