Squid Game
Ep1:
At the moment I am really intrigued with how they shot this show, and how characters are utilised. I would've been so surprised with that ending if people didn't hype up the messed up sht with this series - and I would've watched it a lot sooner if it wasn't for me binging Arrested Development...*
5/5
Ep2:
I absolutely love this! A whole episode dedicated to showing the main characters' lives, while being based after the events of what happened in the first episode. No flashbacks, just linear story.
I was also convinced that the majority of people would've wanted to stay in the game - considering this is what the whole show is about - but in the end was surprised by the last vote by 001.
The show also convinces the audience on why these characters should stay in the game, and it's very understandable. I'm pretty interested in where this show goes next.
5/5
Ep3:
Show is still going strong. Outcomes of the challenges are becoming slightly predictable, but executed well to grab my attention.
4.5/5
Ep4:
The intensity of that bedtime massacre was mad - It's crazy that not many horror movies have thought of this idea before.
The direction of the characters is kinda becoming predictable again, but was glad that we see characters reveal their name.
(I'm going to be so pissed if Ali dies though)
4/5
Ep5:
Nothing really crazy happens. I kinda felt like that subplot with the doctor ended very abruptly. I liked how Player 456 (I know their names but I don't want to butcher the spelling) makes Player 101 uncomfortable, by telling him that his own teammates could/would betray him. I'm going to be very sad if something bad happens to Player 001.
3/5
Ep6:
Man, fck Sang Woo*. Mf killed the off a rare Pakistani in a Korean drama.
Again, the direction of the ep is predictable. I felt that it was obvious that they were going in teams just to plau against each other. It was also easy to tell which character is going to win, or betray the other person. I think the execution is fine, but it could've been better with subverting expectations.
I do think that the cinematography is on point, and I love the set design.
3/5
Ep7:
I feel like now that the plot is really starting to thicken. The introduction with these millionaires is adding another layer to the plot.
Not a fan of the whole "choose the number so you can go in the right order" scene, because it makes it clear for a lot of people who's going to be eliminated. That being said, I was surprised with the execution. I didn't expect 101 to die like that lmao. Also again, fck Sang woo.*
4/5
Ep8:
I really liked the uneasiness factor of this episode. The revelation of the person behind the mask is interesting, but I'm hoping that they can expand it in the next episode.
Also Sang Woo? More like... this guy is Doo Doo. But seriously f*ck this mf.
4/5
Ep9:
There's a lot to unpack here.
The music, the visuals and story was on point. The revelation of Il-nam kinda feels like a stretch - but makes sense why they had to end thay bedtime massacre when he started screaming for help. I have so many other questions that are left unanswered.
The aftermath of the final game with Gi-hun is interesting, but where tf is this guy gonna go?? It's super clear that there's going to be a season 2. I just hope it isn't a Hunger Games 2 scenario, that it's the same story again but the main character has a lot more experience.
Also fck Il-nam* I guess??
4/5
Overall
Great series, good visuals and sound design, but main issue is that the storytelling should've done a better job at subverting expectations.
Also looking back at it... A lot of these challenges could've been heavily avoided lol
