The Menu
Went into this film blind, so I never seen a trailer/promo, only just the poster and some review scores. Honestly did not expect this to be my favourite film of the year, especially how close we are towards the end of 2022.
The characters have a good range of being douche-y, sinister, and dumb. I absolutely loved going from “why is this character acting like this, are they not aware of what they just saw?!” to “wow this person is f*ed”.
Ralph Fiennes was absolutely amazing, and pretty much stole the whole film.
The story and pacing was extremely well done. It reminded me of Hereditary or Midsommar but it didn’t have an extra long/slow build up to the main meat of the film.
I saw this movie as a commentary on not just food critics, but with other types of reviewers eg. movie reviewers, sports reviewer, etc.
The humour is genuinely great. Can never get over “Tyler’s Bullshit” lmao.
Not only was the video editing great, but the sound was too. There were moments where the audio seamlessly cuts to the next table, and it makes think how many conversations were being recorded at once.
So yea, it looks like this film has beaten Everything Everywhere All At Once for me for Movie of the Year.
