great film, beyond gorgeous cinematography. i don't think this movie would have felt the same and made the same impact if it was in colour. *the last picture show* was especially interesting to me as i'm about the same age as the main characters and live in a small town with nothing to do, though i don't think and certainly don't hope the following year will be anything like this. cloris leachman was friggin INCREDIBLE. deserved that oscar 100%. i'm mainly writing this review to say that. i'm watching *the mary tyler moore show* right now, and seeing her performance in this film while being used to her as phyllis was really something. loved eileen brennan too, and despite being at the same stage of life as the main characters and finding that adds an extra layer of appeal, i was the most engaged by the adults. i loved billy though, he was so sweet and deserved so much better.

what a picture. it's no surprise this is my favourite movie, and it hasn't worn off on me in the slightest. the only thing making this any worse than previous viewing experiences is that while seeing or even just thinking about jack lemmon makes me really happy, i also get overly sentimental. i love him and i miss him so much. i've seen a fair number of his films (48 of them), but most of the ones i haven't seen…

this was so much fun!! i'll come right out and say that i watched this movie for mary tyler moore's boobs and it delivered on that front. she was a joy in this, as was george segal as her husband. lily tomlin and alan alda!!! wonderful!!! lily's character reminded me a little bit of my grandmother so that's a plus. richard jenkins is a lil cutie. mel and nancy are the least interesting characters despite being the leads, but this film is full of eccentrics that make it an enjoyable time, and they have their moments regardless.

this movie genuinely made me so angry. miss dorothy was meant to be a lesbian. i got so fucking mad when graydon fell for her and every time i saw them together it enraged me. i'm devastated they ended up together at the end. overall, i really liked this movie! i don't understand why the evil chinese subplot exists but damn does mary tyler moore look good when she wakes up in the opium den. i of course would love to play with her curls, but i understand it is not my place, and trevor fucking graydon should know that too. she needs a woman. SHE NEEDS A WOMAN. muzzy shooting herself out of a goddamn cannon to break up the "sparks flying" between miss dorothy and gr*ydon. muzzy knows what's best. i love you muzzy. the ladies!!! these lovely ladies!!! julie andrews staring at the camera and the intertitles popping up was a delight every time. her boob obsession. maybe the woman miss dorothy needed was millie. they're so cute together. she was brilliant!! mary tyler moore may just be the most beautiful woman i have ever seen and i need her so bad. she has the most gorgeous big brown eyes and ouuuughhhh oh my god. was digging her eyeshadow too. hell yeah. it feels awful to say but she sounds the most like mary tyler moore to me when she's in distress. you go laura petrie! i love her so much and was so happy whenever she was on screen, unless it was with gr*ydon of course. CAROL CHANNING MY GOAT i love her voiiiice her vocal range is so unique and muzzy is such a fun character. favourite part of the film for sure. raspberries!!! i liked jimmy too!! cute little fella. i was thinking that if miss dorothy had to end up with a man i wouldn't mind if it was him, that was until. i don't want to mark this review as containing spoilers but let's just say that definitely couldn't happen. tr*vor gr*ydon. FUCK TR*VOR GR*YDON. RUINED MY VIEWING EXPERIENCE I HATE YOU FUCK YOU I HATW TEVOR GRAYDIN
