Barbie
FCK
THIS PUT ME IN AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS MODE.
REVIEW LATER PAG-UWI!
EDIT:
So ayun, the 5/5 rating for this film is purely subjective. This is far from a perfect film, it has many flaws and me thinks that the discussion of feminism and patriarchy is still surface level - but that's just me.
But what I like is that it opens a forum for women (and kens) to talk - or debate even - about what should feminism advocates (if hindi niyo pa rin gets), how female gets punched in the face by patriarchy and how it affects the men also. And how, Allan is just Allan (which is the literally me).
And take with a grain of salt what I have said earlier about the discussion of topics are on a surface level. I am not in the position to say it as a fact, since all of my life this privilege of fcking patriarchy is in my surroundings.
The film's strongest suits are the following: its lead actors, production design, Gerwig and Baumbach's screenplay, and Gerwig's vision of the film.
You can never go wrong with Gerwig and Baumbach's screenplay (big fan of their works - the mumblecore type). The dialogues hit hard, the theme slaps you in the face, and the message just kicks you in the sack. And this was elevated by Robbie's and Gosling's performance as they give nuances to these characters that made them real as they can be. And of course, a big shout out to Ferrera's great delivery of the monologue.
And I can see why for some the monologue doesn't work for others - sicne for some, film is an audio-visual medium. SHOW DON'T TELL. And it is a fair criticism as it made the film a little bit preachy too.
OBJECTIVE RATING: 4.0/5
Nevertheless, the film made me feel something deep inside na hindi ko alam paano i-express into words. And that last message of the film just strikes in my heart strings.
*You can be anything you want. You don't need to conform to others or their permission to be whoever you want. You have no set ending - live as you are and want to be.

This movie is for the Barbies, the Ken's, and the Allan's out there. Thank you, Greta Gerwig for this candy-sweet movie.
