I absolutely adored this movie. Having Parsons himself direct it really kept it true to his original creation (while I do very much enjoy the internet’s different adaptations and levels of the backrooms, the original is iconic). The mix between found-footage recording and typical third person movie recording gives the movie a really nice flow to it. I also appreciate it being really unsettling without the overuse of entities and monsters, but still giving us something specific to be afraid of. The “monsters” or entities being people who have essentially merged or become part of the backrooms is a really cool concept, and the fact that it wasn’t fully explore or explained actually added to my enjoyment of the movie—it was never meant to explain why this place exists, that is whole appeal of the backrooms. Phenomenal movie! My favourite of the year so far for sure.

I was expecting so much more from this so called “classic” coming of age movie. Genuinely disappointing and overall quite uncomfortable. The stereotypes in this movie are overwhelming for being a movie about breaking stereotypes. Kind of a waste of my time.

Going halfway because I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. Some good scares, definitely gross. But again, I’ve seen better.

Actually kind of liked it. A little predictable but that’s okay. The monster was really cool so it gets extra points for that. Also I ate up the main character constantly coming back to his trauma.
