Adolescence
Adolescence is a show that will force a lasting impression on any watcher.
The acting is just that good, especially from Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper and the way how each episode is shot in a one take is, on the one hand very impressive and on the other manages to make the show feel more real in my opinion.
Real is the keyword here, since Adolescence manages to shine a light on the actual real dangers social media can actually pose.
This or more precisely the danger of constant mutual adversity, hate and how people from all sides just keep adding oil to a fire that’s already big enough to burn down a house.
As a teenager who is more or less active on social media I could definitely pull up examples of things I saw when they talked about social media, bullying and more direct things like an Andrew Tate mention or violent crimes people commit because something that happened online.
Apart from episode 3 that everyone keeps (rightfully) talking about I’d like to add that episode 2 was one of the most realistic portrayals of a school after a student death I’ve seen on the screen.
A year ago at my school we had a case of a student dying and again I could point to many similarities from the things I saw with my own two eyes and the things in the show.
Still, if you’d ask me which episode was the best I couldn’t give you a straight answer.
Overall is Adolescence is a brilliant show, with great acting all around and a story that tries and mostly manages to flesh out everything about its central characters.
