Cowboy Bebop
You gotta go out with a bang
Cowboy Bebop follows the crew of the eponymous space ship, the Bebop, consisting of a gambling addicted woman who can’t remember her past, a dog, an ex cop with a reputation, a clueless but tech-savvy kid and a man haunted by his past.
What sounds like the setup for a mediocre joke at best turns out to be one of the most entertaining group dynamics I've seen in a series. The anime gives each character their time to shine, shifting its tone almost every other episode and while there isn’t something like a fully coherent storyline most of the time I slowly grew to like the entire crew.
Especially some of the Faye episodes really got to me.
A different thing that was very well done was the world building.
We got to see many different planets and cultures, as well as different TV channels and cuisines.
Apart from the storyline, with many emotional up and downs and the climactic tear jerker that last episode is, Cowboy Bebop is also masterfully made in all technical regards.
Score and soundtrack are awesome and the animation and artstyle are gorgeous.
So overall, even if it took a bit for me to get into it, given the mostly episodic structure of the show I was blown away by Cowboy Bebop and it left me with much to think about.
