Dexter

I’ll admit, I’m a bit biased towards this film, as it is one of the movies I remember watching often when I was a young child. Still, even without all of that, this movie is an absolute feast. The designs -both costume and set- are out of this world and bring the beautiful and intriguing world of the film to life; while everything is captured in gorgeous cinematography, shifting expertly between whimsical beauty and terrifying horrors. This shifting is only accentuated by the phenomenal score, which can either be accompanying and atmospheric or penetrating. Story wise, the movie shifts from the known narrative of beauty and the beast and adds many dark twists and complexities to it, with my favorite being the „netvor‘s“ inner monologues with his bestiality, which he is desperately trying not to succumb to. In short, this is a dark fantasy masterpiece.
