Station Eleven
Truly the most inconsistent show I’ve ever watched. It seems like the show flip flops between ok-ish boring episodes to some of the best episodes of TV I’ve ever watched. 3,5,7,&9 were genuinely amazing and I loved every single second of them. But when the show pivots to focus on the traveling symphony I just don’t care. All the characters in the group are annoying and pretentious and I don’t like watching them. That also might be because I’m not the biggest fan of Shakespeare but still none of the characters were enjoyable outside of Kirsten. The show thrives on telling individual stories of people dealing with the aftermath and finding ways to survive. Jeevan, Kirsten, and Frank’s story particularly resonated with me. Their bond felt so real and personal. Miranda has one of the most heartbreaking monologues I’ve ever seen in that pitch meeting scene. And I loved seeing Clark build a community and a life out of the survivors in the airport. That’s where the show worked for me. It’s genuinely refreshing to see a post apocalyptic show that isn’t so pessimistic and dour. It’s nice to see hope and shit. Especially now.
Idk how the finale will make me feel about the show overall but I just had too many thoughts about this show after watching this weeks episodes that I had to get them out now. I’ll probably edit once the finale comes out to finish my thoughts.
Edit- finale was good. The whole show is worth that moment when Kirsten and Jeevan see each other again.
