Get Out
It’s insane how strong Peele came out of the gate with Get Out. It’s scary, watchable, beautifully rendered, and has some important things to say. Gotta respect that Peele skipped past all the bald-faced racism and went right after white liberals who “would have voted for Obama a third time” if they could.
I’m not sure if Peele thinks outright demonization of black people is more or less dangerous than the racism that seeks to assimilate black people into white culture at the expense of their own identities, but Get Out definitely makes the audience answer those questions for themselves. But also… it’s wrapped up in a real fun horror comedy. Brilliant.
Sneaky Winner: Catherine Keener is so FREAKING CREEPY. Get it, girl.
Surprising Loser: Tea.
