Finally watched this after missing it out on the road. Incredible. Instantly has such a charm to it that makes it feel like an instant classic. Just a little bit of everything here and it all works incredibly well. A little bit of a knock against essentially casting an actor to play themselves but even that works so insanely in its favor. Not sure if this is the book talking but I do wish we got to see a little more into Grace before the mission and if that would’ve led to the story having a little more to say about humanity or the WHY in general behind what they’re doing. Either way they still found a really interesting approach to his arc as a whole. Circling back to the charm. Again a lot of this comes down to gosling but my god every scene on earth has something unique to offer that I didn’t see coming. All of graces mannerisms and quips, the way the movie characterized the different scientists and world leaders, CARL. There’s about a minute and a half of them buying duct tape at Home Depot. Chalk it up to budget but lord and miller I’m sure fought to have that be essential and it adds so much. First 30 minutes are filled with bits like that. Greg Frasier fist my bump.

Really big fan of this. Pretty genius setup and execution for something that was obviously on a tight budget. I really only found myself detached in the opening few scenes where things come across a little stilted and obvious as writing. But as soon as the lead actress snaps into character this thing works incredibly well. Paced perfectly for a first feature and especially a horror. As things progress you really can see barkers roots start to show from his previous works and what he really has a knack for. Genuinely upset at how everything plays out in the end that %100 was his intention. Seriously can’t get over how smart this thing was made, not a dollar was spent on something not necessary to the story. Most expensive thing they bought were the needle drops. *torchlight jeep cameo

Fun take on the genre. Love just how little it does to explain any of it actually. Could’ve used with more suspicion or backstory from milk to setup what goes down. Awesome to think a movie made for nothing shot like this led to a funded feature dropping next month.

Really loved a lot of the character work throughout, but slowly gets to a place just a little too far fetched at times. Yeun should be in 10 movies a year
