Star Wars
This film review marks the beginning of a 3-week journey where I watch all 11 of the live-action Star Wars films (released chronologically). Surprisingly, through my 16 1/2 years of living, I have never seen any Star Wars movies. I had never felt intrigued by the basis of the films... but luckily, A New Hope was the perfect way to start off my journey.
This film focuses on a young Luke Skywalker as he travels with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee, and 2 droids to save the galaxy from being destroyed by the Empire's Death star, as well as attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the iconic Darth Vader.
There is a reason that this film won 6 Oscars and countless other accolades and praise. It's a great film. The journey is epic, the fight scenes are cool, and the plot is iconic. Some special effects might seem corny now, but I can't imagine how breathtaking they would have been in 1977. And frankly, I still think that some of the special effects are pretty cool, even for today's standards. The only "problem" with this film, is that I think it had a few pacing issues. There were certain things that were moving a little bit too fast, but this certainly didn't take too much away from the film.
This was a great way to start off the franchise, I can understand the hype behind this film. I loved it and I can't wait to watch Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
