Batman
this was the first live action batman film i ever watched, and my dad showed it to me when i was younger, it’s been both of ours favourite adaptations ever since, and something we continually bond on. batman has been my thing since i was a kid and i owe a lot of that to my dad, and in turn, this film. every bit of batman merch i get, he (if he hasn’t been the one to get it) gets excited over it just as i do. he gets the references i make and will make them right back.
even today when he saw i recorded this, he came into my room all excited telling me that he’d seen it on the planner and instantly knew it was me who had recorded it (rather than my two brothers) and we talked about how keaton is our fav and we love how burton makes the film look, and how everything in this film is just COOL.
i’m very blessed with two amazing, loving parents who understand me deeply - but my dad gets a side of me that i find few people in my life really do, and i think there arent many feelings like being known and engaged with in things you find interesting.
for me though, this film is perfection. it’s fun - mature enough to be taken seriously, yet campy enough to feel like a comic book. it’s gothic and dark yet colours often shine. it covers gritty actions but comedy is always prevalent. it balances everything perfectly.
it’s a brilliant movie, and it’s my favourite film adaptation of my favourite fictional character.
but most of all, it reminds me of my dad, who is the most amazing dad i could ever ask for, and i adore this film for what it is - but i adore it even more for what it brings me in sentimentality. i love my dad to pieces and this brings me closer to him, so i don’t think i could ask for anything more.
batman to me symbolises hope, someone you can trust, and someone you know is looking out for you. he’s awesome, admirable, and a person you see as light in the darkness. my dad is my batman. he’s been my hero since the day i was born and will be until the day i die.
