A Clockwork Orange
One of those rare cinematic masterpieces that infects your mind and refuses to leave. Going into it for the first time, you expect a mindless celebration of ultra-violence, but Stanley Kubrick delivers something infinitely deeper.
This film is not a glorification of brutality. Instead, it stands as a brilliant, deeply disturbing manifesto on human freedom and the sanctity of free will. Kubrick forces us into an uncomfortable corner, proving that a society which strips a man of his choice to do evil is far more terrifying than the evil itself.
Malcolm McDowell is hypnotic, the classical soundtrack is beautifully twisted, and the social commentary is still razor-sharp. A flawless, unsettling work of art.
