Perfect Blue
I just finished the film.
It gave me a headache.
The first r@pe scene was really disturbing. The way it's shot, her being attacked by her all-male audience, reminded me of the way her privacy is completely violated by her fans and haters (who are also all men). The scene really shocked me and I preferred to turn off the sound.
Luckily, the second assault attempt was interrupted because honestly, it would be too much for me. The instrumentalization of Mima's body is truly extreme and disturbing.
Then, it's extremely confusing because fiction applies to reality and vice versa, so we can no longer disentangle fact from fiction.
My interpretation is that Mima's co-worker on set, told the truth about Mima during the shooting in the context of the film : Mima is schizophrenic and/or has a personality disorder following a violent assault of the past. Since this event, she has visions and is no longer able to discern reality from fiction. I don't know if I believe or not the thing with the twin sister, it seems too unreal but anyway, the whole movie was.
But there are a lot of elements I didn't understand such as the crazy ugly man who was stalking her. I didn't understand what was his role and importance in the plot or what his acts meant.
And the ending is even more confusing.
All the characters deserve to end up in the asylum
